Getting into the Bible

Too many people shoot opinions like six-shooters from an American Western, without a foundation of truth. Through grace, God had his words and principles recorded and collected into one volume today -- the holy Bible. We see in Paul's letter to Timothy that Scripture is profitable in our walk with God through daily battles. So how do we absorb these inspired words so as to act appropriately and with power?

Hear the word. Hearing what God has to say results in faith - a necessity for battle. Take notes!

Read the word. Reading is a personal "touch" intake of God's instruction and principles, and a challenge for many. Have a reading plan with an objective.

Study the word. Jesus said to search the Scriptures. The time to "Study the Word No More" will come later. Now is the time to learn and be prepared.

Memorize the word. Successful people use the tools in their trade kitbag to perform their tasks at hand. Memorizing verses and passages allow the Holy Spirit to pull from memory when needed during an engagement.

Meditate on the word. Meditating or thinking more in depth about a passage, concept, or verse helps us gain a greater perspective and understanding of God's Word.

Apply the word God expects us to change by putting off at our old nature and putting on His. Without this change, or transformation, we become of little effect for his kingdom and ultimate glory.
