Daily Battles
As we investigate militaries through the ages and around the world, we see there is more to “soldiering” than aggression against an enemy. In fact, many militaries and military leaders, as our political leaders, would have actual warfare – offensive military actions, be held in reserve as a last option of national power in the overall pursuit of peace. So, what we can learn as Warriors-of-Peace as we deal with our own daily battles of life? Most of us have no shooting enemy, for which governments provide rules of engagement. But even then, how do we act instead of reacting to a personal attack? How do we call on resources beyond our own? What innate values do we follow, and are we committed to our walk with God during these times? Although there are several steps one could take that are addressed elsewhere on this site, take a look at the following and see what might fit for you (don't forget to look at the truths of the Bible verses below that back up these thoughts): 1. Be grateful. Not always easy to do! And yet, essential for us to realize that God is still on His throne in heaven, and deeply cares about each of us. 2. Check to see if there is a sin issue. If there is, acknowledge it. No rationalization. No excuses. Just do it. Sincerely. 3. Claim a promise! As you read in the Bible and God shows you a promise He has made, take Him up on it! Memorize it, and don’t let go if it! One states that He will keep us in perfect peace. So, keep that one close! Visibility is important! use the backs of old business cards or 3x5 cards to record that promise, and then post it in a visible place - your dash board, your computer screen (or even screensaver), your refrigerator or bathroom mirror. 4. Affirm verses back to God. When you find a verse that says, “I will…” then make it your and tell it back to God, as part of your personal commitment to walk in fellowship with Him. 5. Ask God for His help. To create a clean heart in you; to not let your feet slip; to grant wisdom or favor; to open doors or a window. These are things He does daily. For our daily battles. 6. Now walk in victory. It does not matter if the deal is yet done or the issue resolved. God in His providence is working. Move over and let Him work. This starts with you.
